Brain Fog and Memory
Posted on Apr 12, 2017 by Jenna Crookshanks
Do you often feel foggy or forget what you’re doing during the day? It’s natural to feel nervous when you forget something; but believe it or not, as many as 60 percent of US adults say they are very or somewhat worried about memory loss.
When you experience symptoms such as fogginess, a lack of focus, forgetfulness, or you just can’t think, your body is actually sending a message that there’s an imbalance somewhere.
The good news is that our brains are a dynamic organ that constantly adapt and change, for better or worse. For example, many daily activities such as lack of sleep, can seriously interfere with your memory the next day. But our brains are a very moldable organ that can even rewire itself if given the proper tools.
Fortunately there are natural solutions to help with the symptoms of memory loss and brain fog, such as B vitamins, including B-12, which help with alertness and may slow down brain shrinkage. Eating a healthy diet, avoiding sugars and grains, and including healthy fats, may improve focus and lesson symptoms of dementia as we age.
Another consideration is how your gut health affects your brain. Your gut is your second brain and your gut bacteria transmits information to your brain via the vagus nerve. There is a close connection between abnormal gut flora and abnormal brain development and quite simply, your gut health can impact your brain function. One of the best ways to support gut health is to consume beneficial bacteria, such as using fermented vegetables or a probiotic supplement for this. Of course, exercise, getting proper sleep, drinking green tea, optimizing your Vitamin D levels along with Omega 3 Fats and Coconut Oil, are a few other natural ways to support your memory and brain function.
