Detoxification Without Damaging Tissue

The New Year usually means new resolutions to take better care of ourselves. Often we look for a quick fix to assist in “jump starting” our healthier, more fit, improved self. Some examples might be a “three day juice cleanse”, a “liver detox”, a “purification program”. But, how do you know which cleanse you need or which program is right for you? Which option will be the best and just why are these detox programs so popular right now?
In general the idea of detoxification is a good one: the premise being that our bodies ingest toxins faster than they can eliminate them. However, it is important to realize something very important. Our bodies are actually designed to detox themselves! Unfortunately, we live in such a toxic world that sometimes our bodies need assistance navigating through the overload from exposure to EMFs, poor food choices and constant bombardments thrown at our immune systems.
While we all want that quick fix, it is important to recognize that quick usually does not equate to a good, healthy, long term benefits for us. Since the body is equipped to detoxify itself, detoxing should never be forced, but rather supported, to avoid damage to tissue and added stress to our body long term.
Before starting on any program to assist your body in the natural process of detoxification, there are several precursors that should be taken into consideration such as drinking water, reducing toxic exposures and eating a whole food diet. These steps are critical to prepare the body for a gentle detox.
At NutritionWorks we design detox programs that are specific to what each individual needs, along with teaching steps to a healthier lifestyle that can be maintained over a lifetime. Join us for our Health Talk on Wednesday, January 11th at 6:30pm to learn more!
